The Art of Playful Storytelling with Alexa Weston
“With social media, and the internet, it’s so easy to be very engulfed in a lot incredible artwork out there, and it’s very easy to perhaps fall down a rabbit hole of being drawn to certain styles because you’re seeing a lot of it. When you close that off, I feel that’s where the magic happens because you are creating just for you.”
Based just outside of Bath, Alexa Weston is a painter creating whimsical, transportive artworks inspired by mid-century art, interiors and storytelling.
Her dining table doubling as her home studio, here is where her imagination meets the canvas. Acrylics and oil pastels are her medium of choice, guiding the simple forms which make up her signature style and accompanied by plenty of texture.
Looking back on her childhood, Alexa doesn't describe herself as "particularly arty", but rather as a lover of imaginative play and children's book illustrations which makes perfect sense when admiring her work. It's playful, nostalgic and full of imaginary worlds waiting to be explored.
With a following of nearly 40,000 on Instagram, her art has clearly resonated with many. Yet, as an artist working in a space filled with an abundance of inspiring work, she reminds us that sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is step away from the noise - allowing ourselves the space to create what feels authentic and true to who we are.
